Andy Roberts

Andy is the partner responsible for Urban Design, with a particular expertise in large scale masterplanning of residential led, mixed use projects within sensitive locations. Andy specialises in developing spatial masterplans from a deeper understanding of the site constraints, landscape and townscape character.

Andy has experience of developing design guidance within the historic market town of Beverley, and a heritage location within Liverpool Waters. Andy has also been involved in the leading Strategic Regeneration Frameworks in Stoke, North Kirklees, Nottingham and Liverpool. He has a detailed knowledge of large scale master planning and tends to lead the front end of Planit’s urban design process overseeing the development of concepts to RIBA stage C and then liaising with the delivery teams to ensure that the overall framework of design principles are ultimately realised through detailed design and construction. Andy leads Planit’s inputs into community engagement, design workshops and inquiry by design exercises, resulting in a number of successful neighbourhood masterplanning exercises, typically involving a large number of stakeholders such as council members, English Heritage, The Design Council, and the HCA.

More recently, Andy has produced the Building Characterisation Study for Liverpool Waters, the largest brownfield regeneration proposal in the North West, in consultation with the Design Council and officers of the City Council, resulting in a resolution to grant planning permission.

Lindsay Humblet

As Planit’s head of design, Lindsay leads the design process throughout our commissions from inception through to completion on site. He plays a role in all design-related projects that come into the office and is especially adept at working closely with artists and architectural partners – from small studios to Stirling Prize winners.

He has considerable experience of providing this role with a proven track record of delivering high quality public realm schemes on site. He led the design teams on both our Leopold Square project in Sheffield and St John’s Square in the heart of Blackpool, which proved a catalyst for the towns regeneration. His recent work includes a number of benchmark schemes for streets and spaces including the multi award winning Poynton scheme in Cheshire, Fishergate in Preston and is currently overseeing Tony Wilson Place at First Street, Manchester.

He is currently focusing on major strategic regeneration projects throughout the UK, with a specific focus on sustainable, public realm-led masterplanning.
