Leek Planning Announcement
Redevelopment of a 6.6ha former concrete manufacturing site to the south of Leek Town Centre has gained planning permission.
The scheme integrates quality public spaces with a viable mix of uses through a comprehensive masterplan by Planit-IE. The development re-defines the southern urban edge, forming a positive gateway to Leek and connection to Ladderedge Country Park.
Up to 175 dwellings with open space, play areas and pedestrian and cycle routes are proposed, whilst employment uses include light and general industrial units. The tourism and leisure element features a marina connecting to the adjoining Caldon Canal and a railway station hub, which will be taken forward by the Churnet Valley Railway to link Leek into the heritage railway.
The scheme meets Staffordshire Moorand Council’s wider regeneration aspiration for the Cornhill area – as articulated within the Draft Churnet Valley Masterplan and emerging Core Strategy.
Planit-IE supported HOW Planning’s application on behalf of Barnfield Hughes Ltd.
